Is there really a lifestyle scene in Utah?

We just moved to Salt Lake City from Phoenix and assumed the lifestyle scene would be nonexistent given the conservative reputation. Are we wrong? Is there actually a community here?

You are very wrong, and happily so! SLC has a surprisingly active lifestyle scene. It's smaller than what you had in Phoenix, absolutely, but it's real and growing. The Sanctuary SLC is the main venue — an invitation-only club in a beautifully restored building downtown that hosts themed events (EDM nights, toga parties, and more). Beyond that, there's a strong house party network and several active groups on lifestyle apps. The scene here operates more discreetly than in most cities for obvious cultural reasons, but that discretion actually creates a tighter, more trusting community. People who are in the lifestyle here tend to be very committed to it because they've already done the hard work of finding it. You'll need to put in some effort to connect — it won't be as visible as Phoenix — but once you're in, you'll find a welcoming and surprisingly active community.

SLC transplant from LA here. I was shocked by how active the scene is. It's definitely underground compared to bigger cities, but the quality of connections is arguably better because the community is tight-knit. Everyone looks out for each other. Start by getting on lifestyle apps and filtering for SLC — you'll find more profiles than you expect. Then get yourself an invite to The Sanctuary.

Utah native in the lifestyle for 8 years. The scene has grown enormously in the last 5 years as more people have moved here from California, Arizona, and Texas. SLC itself is actually quite progressive — it's the surrounding areas that are conservative. Downtown SLC has a thriving bar scene, the city is young and educated, and there are more lifestyle couples here than anyone outside the community would guess.
